We are The Mirskys. We have lived here since 2009, and have always put out a large number of physical lights, but my wife was always pretty adamant about keeping things classy. Her rule was always "Do what you want, as long as it's red... and white. And maybe a hint of green."
Well, that works for a while, but with kids, they get bored with red, white and green. In 2020... the year the world got ugly... I knew we had to do something to bring some happiness & joy to people's faces. It was just a sad year in many ways. I also had both a need and a desire to start replacing a lot of our older lights with newer, more energy-efficient LED lights. In addition to making the show vastly different, I also needed to save money on electricity and we're always looking to make changes that help the planet.
So, my girls and I convinced my wife that we needed **more colors** - and she reluctantly agreed to let us do "one yard prop any colors we wanted." That was my ticket to change. So, in 2020, we added a 10-foot-tall piece of pipe that had 1600 color-changing LED lights on it, and I made a giant XMAS TREE. Yeah, I took advantage of her rule, but it worked, because she loved it too!
We had no music in 2020... just some pretty light sequences. And the goal was to revamp the layout and add music in 2021. And I did... to a small degree. But then in November... in a series of totally unrelated events... my brain and my heart stopped talking properly to each other and, before I could finish our new & improved light show... I experienced a Sudden Cardiac Arrest and for a brief period of time, left the land of the living. The setting up of the show had nothing at all to do with the cariac arrest... it's just what I happened to be doing at the time. And thanks to the amazing efforts of Brick's finest, I'm back... and better than ever. But because my friends are morbid... after mere minutes of deliberation, the show was renamed to Mirsky's Heart Stopping Holiday Light Show.
One thing I was upset that we lost over time were our static lights. Static lights are lights that do not change colors. And prior to 2020, we had only static lights. When we started doing the music syncronized show, having those lights on distracted from the show... but they could not be controlled to be PART of the show. So, I'd have them OFF during music and ON when no music was playing. As of this year, 2024, we have added two additional lighting controllers that allow us to have ALL of our LEDs (about 19,000 this year) syncronized to the music. And we added a couple new props and elements, but nothing major. We hope you enjoy!
You can LISTEN TO OUR LIGHTS at the top and bottom of every hour. When a music block ends, we display pretty light sequences (with no music) for the remainder of the half-hour. We keep the speaker volume low as to not drive our neighbors bonkers, and you can also listen in your car on 107.7 FM. This is our current song timing, in case you want to try to catch something specific.
